How much and how many are two question words that are used to ask about a quantity or a number of elements.
How many apples are on the table?
How much sugar do you want in the coffee?
2. When do we use how much?
How much is used with uncountable nouns.
How much milk is there in the fridge?

How much is also used to ask for the price of an item, as what we are really asking is How much money something costs, and money is an uncountable noun.

If the noun has already been mentioned, it can logically be omitted in the question.

How many is used with plural countable nouns.
How many students are there in the school?
How many pencils have you got?
